This Week’s Leading Man Gold Standard goes to handsome, talented superstar Jack Wagner, who portrays businessman Nick Marone on CBS’s “The Bold and the Beautiful.” Jack is one of the most popular stars on TV, and is remembered from roles in Aaron Spelling’s “Melrose Place” and as Frisco Jones on the ABC soap opera “General Hospital.” But it’s on CBS’s popular soap (“B&B”) that Jack gets the best work and greatest story lines of his career.
Not only is Jack’s Nick finding trouble in his personal life, but his professional life running Jackie M Designs is also in jeopardy. While mama Jackie is chasing after much younger husband Owen and this week kissing Stephanie’s husband Eric, Nick is trying to keep the company afloat. What happened this week? In came ex-wife Bridget with baby Logan, that she had by Nick’s stepfather Owen, Nick continued to battle the creditors and is trying to find a way to revive the sagging profit margin of Marone Enterprises and Jackie M Design. The most important thing right now is to find an infusion of cash to fill the leaking hole in the ship that has run smoothly until the past few years, when Nick’s own personal life took a tailspin.
On Wednesday Nick was visited by another ex-wife, Brooke, who just happens to be his former mother-in-law as well. Sure, you can keep up with it all. Bradley Bell, the show’s talented and Emmy Award winning head writer and executive producer does a great job of it, if viewers can’t. The critics keep bashing Brad’s maverick and swift storytelling, but they don’t quite understand, that his style is what makes this drama so popular all over the world. “We just love ‘B&B’ Down Under,'” said Nancy Rodger. “We are a few months behind, and I try to read your columns and everything on the Internet to keep up with what we have to look forward to.” Maria in Italy said, in perfect English. “We see things differently in Europe, I guess, Tommy. We watch this show, we love it, it’s “Bella!” We love how the writers switch gears, I think you call it in the U.S.? We like how things turn and the fastness of the story lines is invigorating for us.”
Critics be damned. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, but they don’t have a right to their own facts. The fact is, “B&B” is number two rated, only behind sister soap “The Young and the Restless.” Bell Phillip Television Productions is doing an excellent job keeping this genre fresh and exciting, or to quote Maria in Milan, very “invigorating!” Keep it up, Brad. Remember, while you work, creatively proving you are a genius, the carnival barkers chase behind your caravan making noise. But it’s you, we pay attention to, not the naysayer!
Jack Wagner, this week, you simply were, the BEST!
“B&B” airs weekdays on CBS.
