Karen Black Stars In 'Nothing Special,' Is Anything But…

Karen Black is a Golden Globe Award winning actress, who has also been nominated for an Academy Award. And truthfully; with good reason. The multi-award winning actress is perhaps one of the most diverse yet solid performers on the silver screen of the past generation. Karen is proving that although she became a huge star in the 1970s and ‘80s, that she is very much still relevant and still capable of offering a magnificent on screen performance decades after learning her god given craft from many of Hollywood and Broadway’s greatest acting teachers and legends. She however is a legend in her own right, although she’s far too young and beautiful for that term to be used too often.

The title of her latest film “Nothing Special” belies the facts about the film and about the creative force of Karen Black, which pops out at you on the screen, then continues to bore into your heart and soul throughout every film and play she performs in. Whenever relatives from back east visit, they always ask, “When are you going to introduce us to your friends, talented and sexy Tanna (Frederick), the great Henry (Jaglom_ and the sublime and gorgeous Karen (Black)? Karen is always busy, so she’s difficult to keep up with, but if you want to see her and also see a film that really is phenomenal, then head out to Beverly Hills’s Laemmle’s Music Hall at 9036 Wilshire Blvd. on Veteran’s Day (November 11) and you won’t be disappointed.

“Working with writer/director Angela Garcia Combs was a shock, Tommy. How did my brilliant pal write a character so incredibly well that I could just smooth into it without a hitch and make the life of May Barker become real with a glance,” Karen asked? “Nothing is better for me, nor for the attending audience.”

Anyone who has ever seen Karen’s work realizes she’s a giant in the thespian world. Anyone who sees her in person is instantly mesmerized by a woman, who was blessed with powerful genes and great beauty. But Angela Garcia Combs manages to pull a performance out of Karen and the other cast members that will entertain everyone. For information on show times, etc… go to And for
