This week’s Leading Men Gold Standard goes to two handsome and dynamic actors who portray men who are frustrated by family members and determined to do whatever they have to in order to protect their children. Don Diamont, who portrays billionaire Bill Spencer on CBS’s “The Bold and the Beautiful” and Joshua Morrow, who portrays Nick Newman on CBS’s number-one-rated soap opera “The Young and the Restless” are two men that are fan favorites, and they are definite favorites of Highlight Hollywood editors and readers. Both men showed a new level of acting this week which shows us why soaps are still wanted by viewers and still have a place on network television.
Don Diamont left “The Young and the Restless” as Brad Carlton, and when he walked across the corridor at William J. Bell Studios at CBS TV City in Hollywood, he landed where he belongs, at “The Bold and the Beautiful.” Don’s amazing performance as Dollar Bill Spencer, the conniving billionaire who rules the Los Angeles publishing world, only behind Beverly Hills based Highlight Hollywood, is one of the most engaging and powerful actor actors in Hollywood. The handsome and gracious superstar is one of the most genuine good and kind men in the business. But when it comes to his alter-ego’s business, whether that means family or Spencer Publishing, you’d better get out of the way, or get steamrolled. This week Bill plotted to help his son’s wife Steffy to keep her husband Liam, Bill’s son away from the love of Liam’s life, Hope. Hope and Thomas decided by coincidence to go to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico and ended up at the same swanky resort.
Then Bill was devastated when Liam called to tell him and the family that Steffy was chasing behind him and Hope on an ATV and took a terrible tumble and ended up in a coma. However, once Bill got Ridge and Taylor on his private jet, they headed south of the border, only to find out that Bill used his money to bribe a physician to keep Steffy’s good prognosis away from everyone else, including Steffy’s husband Liam. Bill knows that Liam will never leave Steffy if he believes she could die from it. The conniving plans are underway, and next week on Monday, Bill’s newest lie puts Liam in a difficult position. This is a man who plays every scene with aplomb and to utter perfection. So don’t look away for one moment, as you may miss a lot on “B&B!”
Then there’s Joshua Morrow, a family man, in love with the most beautiful wife, Tobe, and is an incredible dad to three sons. However, Josh plays a great father, terrible husband, and even worse businessman. All that aside, Nick spent the week trying to keep his daughter, Faith away from her mother Sharon. Nick doesn’t trust Sharon, who broke up with his brother Adam just to get visitation with daughter Faith, and then Sharon decided to become engaged to Nick’s father, Victor Newman in order to gain joint custody. It all worked out for Sharon, but Nick is devastated and worried for his little girl.
Joshua plays the role like a real maverick. The handsome hunk is a lot more than just chiseled abs and a handsome face; he’s also one of the best actors in the industry, and is a fan favorite as well. Watching Josh play very high dramatic scenes opposite Sharon Case and Michelle Stafford, only to play hero and very charming Nick with (mom, Nikki) Melody Thomas Scott shows what a great range this young actor possesses. He’s always been one of my favorite actors, and that I say even though he’s a good friend personally. That hasn’t one thing to do with the choice we editors at Highlight Hollywood made this week, when we chose Don Diamont and Joshua Morrow as the Leading Men who had all the Gold this week!
“Y&R” and “B&B” both air weekdays on CBS.
