CBS’s ‘The Young And The Restless’ Ratings Continue To Plummet, And Sony Stubbornly Stands By Jill Farren Phelps And Josh Griffith, Highlight Hollywood News
Whether it’s the storylines or the firings and hirings, fans are outraged at the new regime, who was heralded in to CBS TV City as if they were conquering heroes in 15th Century Europe. However, since the shine Jill Farren Phelps attempted to put on her story, and Josh Griffith’s spin, about how he was courted for the new gig. Viewers are finding out that this team is all smoke and mirrors, and have also figured out what Hollywood insiders knew from the first day in September when they stepped on the soundstage at William J. Bell Studios. They were snake oil salesmen. Pretending they would use, to quote Firing Phelps, “a scalpel” to clean up and fix some minor problems.
Well, fix she has. Fixed it so that viewers, especially the coveted demographic of Women between the ages of 18-49 have stopped watching this incredibly badly run soap opera, and are tuning in to get this! “General Hospital.” I say to fans, continue to turn on ABC’s “General Hospital,” because it really has been revived from death throws Jill Farren Phelps left the soap in. When handsome and talented showrunner Frank Valentini was given the series, everyone assumed wrongly, that he was simply hired to end the show on a high note. Within weeks of his arrival, the show became a hit again, and ABC was proud to renew the soap.
That won’t happen to “Y&R,” which Sony wants off the air, and CBS is seemingly incapable of doing what needs to be done. Get rid of this new regime before our beloved soap is not only no longer the number one rated drama, which it has been for 24-years, but is no longer on the air.

I LOVE SHARON So much. I want her happy and I do not see them using such a wonderful beautiful actor like they should be! Sharon and Nick or Sharon and Adam are our fairytale and i can’t believe the writers are still doing this same old Victor and Nikki abusive to all of GC!

Yes Sharon and Adam are a faifytale and super hot like the old days and these new writers did NOT let them be together! MAB gave us the true love of SHADAM but these new people Jill and Josh will NOT give us our Shadam like MAB gave us!!! I don’t even want to watch now! Another wedding of Victor and Nikki will really push me over the edge!
I agree we all loved the romance of Sharon and Adam that Maria A Bell gave us. She saw how they had this magic. Dru was perfect and so great with Neil all those years . i know Maria if still our writer would know no one could replace Drucilla and Neil’s love. Those were some great times. We would of had our #1 couples back by now if MAB was still there
These writers need to get rid of Chelsea!I think Chelsea was never supposed to stay. That was NOT MAB intention. She knows how much we all loved the love she gave us of the story of Sharon and Adam!!!!!!!!
Tommy, I really thought the new writers were going to give us back Drucilla. I know Maria Bell loved Victoria Rowell. But the new writers are pushing this Leslie person on us for Neil. I love Sharon and Adam and yet they still keep Adam suffering along with Chelsea who he never loved.
Druscilla is not coming back to Y&R because Sony and CBS executives don’t like Victoria Rowell. This has nothing to do with Phelps or Griffin and every thing to do with Steve Kent and Les Moonves.
The new writers/producers promised us a happy Sharon . She is such talent and I am so tired of them dragging there feet. Make her well. I also thought we would get some more for Neil and The Abbott family but yet Victor wins still doing the same old things to others, Something new and exciting would be great. They fired a lot of people but no Drucilla back and why are they keeping useless people such as Devon.Kyle and Chelsea.DO OVER!
I agree it has not been what I was hoping for. Jack got the company I am happy about this but again more of the same Victor going to black mail Jack I hear. We do not want a 16th wedding with Victor and Nikki. We know they were married to us they are married. Sharon we want her and love her to be back to the same old Sharon we adored years and years with Nick.Make her with Adam then . Give this young beautiful women a romance. They need Kevin with someone else like he had with Jana. i believe Maria Bell gave us Kevin and Jana love story. Chloe is so boring like Chelsea. i loved Amber bring her back. Get us a new Malcolm and bring Dru back for neil already. The poor man is so un happy and Lily needs her mother to see her beautiful grand babies. I am not happy Tom with this new team!
i have been watching for 35 yrs. it is going down hill on the stories. please change it. before i change the channel. i love Y&R and love the people who play their parts, but its time to change this ASAP.talented actors!!
I agree, the show is swirling the bowl under the new leadership. They have randomly axed beloved characters for new ones, that lack personality and acting ability.
Viewers put in many hours watching story lines that just disappeared and are instead watching stories that come out of now where and go on for what seems an eternity.
How many years did we see Jack mourn the loss of Jabot and now he wants to incorporate the two companies? No way, not even on drugs would that have happened.
I don’t know if it’s CBS that is trying to end the soap opera regime or Jill Farren Phelp herself, but it’s working whoever is making it happen.
JFP is showing her true vindictive colors and her lack of understanding of what viewers want. Soon it will be all young and I’m sure very buff bodies but that won’t hold ratings. Talented veterans that get actual storylines are what keep me watching a soap. I’m gone after Stephen Nichols last airs. He was the most talented actor to be brought to the show in years and TIIC are too dense to recognize it. When Tucker was paired with Ashley it was the first time in ages that I felt like they actual hit on an awesome couple. Such a waste of talent and story potential. Good bye Y&R and hello GH. Here is hoping Carlivoti will soon be resurrecting Stefan.
But Stephen Nichols is NOT a Y&R *vet*. He’s been on the canvas a mere three years, and the Tucker character never caught on with the fans. The only viewers sorry to see him go are fans of the ACTOR who have watched him on other soaps–not true fans of Y&R.
I so want Jack to keep the company and Sharon and Adam to return to the love they once had under Maria Bell. The new writers are only copying Maria Bell now with this thing Victor is doing with this women he hired to get Jack in trouble like Victor hired Chelsea to do to Billy. The new writers can’t think of there own stuff they have to recycle Maria’s story!
Exactly. I think most Y&R fans are happy Tucker is gone, he was an awful character. I wish Stephen Nichols would have left instead of Tristan Rogers. Jill and Colin were more popular with viewers than Ashley and Tucker, even though the writers were pushing Ashely and Tucker at every turn.
Colin not only fit with Jill he was perfect with Katherine. The Chancellor mansion was always a place for drama and humor, but Tucker had ZERO in the humor department. The Colin character was better before Genevieve showed up, but he’s fixable.
It seems to me and alot of other people that Writers of Y&R wants it to fail. There has been so many people left and fired ever since the stupid writer, JFP was hired. Soundx like Bradly Bell is wanting Y&R to fail. Why, i don’t understand. They keep doing shit like this, they should just take it off air. Thats what they want anyways. They have let go of so many good actors, its a shame. Distroying a great show. A couple more people that goes, im gone. No wonder the ratings are going south. Bells must have hired that bitch to let their show go south. Shame on them. Wonder how their grandaughter or daughter, Christine Bell likes it. Only thing i can say is BYE BYE
I have watched the Y&R since I was a teenager and I love it but I do not understand why Sony/CBS wants it off the air.We have enough talk/game shows on so we definitely do not need anymore!There are only 2 soaps on CBS and you can tell by their ratings that more ppl watch them than the stupid games shows!We watched JFP kill Maureen on the Guiding Light and even she has the guts to admit that it was one of her biggest mistakes so how does she think it will look for her if she kills the No.1 rated soap opera?She seems to think that making this soap more like a night time show is the answer and it’s not!If we wanted that we would be watching them!We could take her new storylines if she slowly integrated them but she hasn’t!She just cut some s/l off after we had invested so much time into them as if they never existed.Then she has fired many of our favorite characters to bring in young actors that we could care less about!Loyal viewers want the backbone actors to have frontburner storylines with the new ones integrated into their story, if the new ones have to be there!There has to be a way for us to save our beloved soap!

As I commented previously, JFP is doing SONY’s bidding ensuring the demise of Y&R. I don’t watch the show every day, and some time in 2013, I’ll probably change the channel permanently.
CBS/Sony can’t seem to get it right. Not only is Y&R running down the drain, B&B is a complete trainwreck! Completely crashed and burned. You’d think Bradley Bell was TRYING to ruin the Bold and the Beautiful. Y&R is no better. I’ve stopped watching CBS soaps all together. I haven’t watched B&B in over 6 months. I couldn’t even watch Susan Flannery’s last episode because it was so horribly written. And now it’s happening to Y&R. I’ve turned to Days of our Lives. And I’ll be turning General Hospital on next.
I’m enjoying the soap so much better. I like the fact that we don’t see Victor and Phyllis in each and every story line. I enjoy the fact the we get to see ALL the characters
I really was done with Chelsea and Adam and so disappointed the new writers keep this non chemistry relationship going on. I am sure Maria Bell wan’t Sharon and Adam back together. Two people would have to die before Victoria Rowell could even be CONSIDERED for a return to Y&R. Those two people are: Steve Kent (Sony) and Les Moonves (CBS). They both have blacklisted her from their studio productions and network respectively. Get over it, she’s done with Y&R, Forever.
Oh that is a shame they will not give us back a wonderful talented actress like Drucilla. I heard Maria bell really wanted Victoria Rowell back. I want Maria Bell back .She gave us Shadam and also the Kevin and Amber stuff and jana who all were great stories.
Well it is huge mistake HUGE NOT to bring Victoria Rowell back as Drucilla. The fans would go crazy for this. They LOVE her! They don’t have a clue nor care what the die hard fans want. Sharon please Put her back with Nick . If not have her marry and have a child with Adam. The fans would love this
Enough with the Shadam! Pairing Adam with Chelsea has been great for growing Adam into a more complex man. Giving him a solid family will challenge his conscience when old Adam starts to peek out. Sharon and Adam should be over. Its tired. its old. its been done. I’m not a fan of some of the choices JFP has made especially firing Tucker. I think he worked as a solid challenge to the moustache’s manipulations. Jack has never filled the screen for me like Victor, but the way Stephen Nichols portrays Tucker, I buy him as able to stand toe to toe with TGVN.
