With Charlie Hunnam out as Christian Grey, the buzz is all anew. Though fans are screaming for Ian Somerhalder, Matt Bomer and Henry Cavill, Highlight Hollywood has learned that a mad crush is going on behind the scenes at Universal and production team at Focus Features, and they are paying a great deal of attention to the chatter online, both on Twitter and Facebook. One source told us, that overnight, Henry Cavill was ahead of the game, but that his busy 2014 filming schedule has to be taken into consideration. “He’s the guy to beat,” the Universal source tells us. Reminding us however, “His schedule since he became 2013’s big action star is being considered. Charlie’s schedule had to be taken into consideration, but the studio doesn’t want to have to push the release date unless absolutely necessary. But, execs have been highly impressed with Cavill’s fan base, that just seems to be brewing and growing.
Also, in the running is “Vampire Diaries” hunk Ian Somerhalder, who is smoldering right now with the recent debut of the new season of his hit CW Network. And Matt Bomer has been a fan favorite since the novel’s release. And his fans are on fire right now as well.
When asked what fans should do to get their favorite cast. The insider said, “Just what they are doing. Letting their feelings be known.” And asked, who could be the wildcard that throws all of these names out? “Rob Pattinson, E.L. really had been lobbying for him early on. But now, anything is possible.”
Universal Studios and Focus Features released a joint statement on Saturday which said that Hunnam’s “immersive TV schedule” does not allow him “to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”
The studio will recast the role and there is no word yet as to how Hunnam’s premature exit will affect the film’s release, presently set for August 2014.
