Founder & General Manager.Walter was born in Memphis, Tennessee and moved to Southern California where he studied design at Los Angeles City College in the early 1970’s. After working as a sales manager, and buyer for a major furniture store chain is California, Walter entered the art industry, publishing mail order catalogs and opening and operating art galleries.In 1989 Walter moved back east to be closer to his aging parents, and opened E&S Gallery in Louisville, KY., as a 2,500 s/f space, and moved to a 5,000 s/f space in downtown Louisville seven years later.Walter married Cathy in 1997 and she joined him in the business in 1998. Over the years, they have grown E&S Gallery into a nationally recognized leader in the African American art industry.Walter has been featured in national publications, profiled in Who’s Who in Black Louisville, and participated in various community business and art planning initiative. He is a member of St. Stephen Church and the Ye Olde Esquires social club.CATHY B. SMITH SHANNON:
General Manager, Doll Graphics Art Publishing & Distributing, Vice President & Partner, E&S Gallery, Inc.Cathy is a graduate of the University of Louisville and holds a BA in Advertising & Public Relations.  She also received certification in Corporate Community Relations from Boston College, Boston, MA.After working in corporate America 13 years in advertising and PR, Cathy joined her husband in business at E&S Gallery to oversee the company’s advertising and marketing strategy.  She immediately began using her marketing expertise to gain national media coverage for E&S Gallery in national publications including Décor Magazine, Black Enterprise, Southern Living magazine and Art Business News to name a few. E&S Gallery supports various organizations fund raising efforts with art donations and the Shannons share their business savvy and art expertise each year, speaking to various entrepreneurs and youth groups about art and entrepreneurship.Cathy serves on the board of Louisville’s Waterfront Development Corporation, is a graduate of Leadership Louisville program, past president of Focus Louisville Alumni Group, and is a co-founder and past-president of the West Broadway Business Association.
