The American Art Awards, with an intent to introduce the best American galleries to unknown artists worldwide, selects their top 25 picks for remarkably proficient and accomplished galleries each year in March. President of www.AmericanArtAwards.com, Thom Bierdz, a fine artist better known as Phillip Chancellor III on The Young & The Restless, explains New York’s selection.
“American Art Awards studies thousands of galleries each year, and we are so enamored with LIK SOHO and all of Peter Lik’s 15 galleries. Lik creates magic – with a camera – as well as with exceptional business savvy and PR likability as a gallery owner.
“Lik is the most successful photographer in the world. Many watched the sexy passionate artist with Australian accent hunt for the perfect shot on the 2011 TV show, From The Edge With Peter Lik. Lik always gets the perfect shot. Not only has he sold upwards of $500 million of artwork to his many valued collectors, including royalty, presidents and celebrities, but in addition the 2014 sale of his B&W photo titled “Phantom” (a ghostlike shape at an Arizona canyon) for $6,500,000.00 is the highest sum ever paid in its genre. In fact, Lik’s works make up four of the top 20 most expensive photographs ever sold.
“A true survivor of Manhattan’s competitive art world, LIK SOHO is one of the proud and few prominent galleries remaining in the hip and trendy downtown neighborhood. Since opening in 2008, this fine art gallery is a popular hotspot fixture among premiere shopping, bars, and restaurants. The interior aesthetic of white and gray walls allow Lik’s magic to engage and entice the viewer, with themes of classic NYC icons including the awe-inspiring vision, “Empire.” We at the American Art Awards proudly name LIK SOHO as the Best Gallery In New York State, 2015, and one of our 25 Best Galleries In The Nation, 2015.”
PETER LIK’S BACKGROUND:
Lik’s passion for photography began during his childhood in Australia, where he grew up the son of Czech immigrants. He took his first photo at eight years old after his parents gave him a Brownie Kodak camera and he snapped a picture of a spider web in his backyard.
In 1984, the then-25-year-old moved to the U.S., where he developed a passion for landscape photography and the panoramic camera.
Lik has spent over 30 years pushing the boundaries of fine art. A self-taught pioneer in the field of landscape photography, he has become synonymous with pristine images of cascading waterfalls, ethereal mountain peaks and peaceful desert canyons.
Amongst the hundreds of prestigious accolades and merits garnered over the years, Lik has been awarded the title of Master Photographer from both the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) and Professional Photographers of America (PPA). He has also been awarded fellowships from the British Institute of Professional Photographers (BIPP) and The Royal Photographic Society (RPS).
Lik’s masterworks include “Pele’s Whisper,” “Sacred Sunrise,” “Eternal Beauty” and the highly acclaimed “Ghost.” Lik’s images can be viewed in luxurious hotels, prominent estates, leading corporate offices and in all of his galleries around the United States.
