HBO Orders Lorne Michaels Comedy Series ‘Brothers In Atlanta,’ Highlight Hollywood News
HBO has ordered a new comedy series from Lorne Michaels titled Brothers in Atlanta, Highlight Hollywood has confirmed. Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin will write, exec produce and star in the show, which centers on struggling entertainers and best friends Langston and Moose trying to navigate friendships and life in the black Mecca of Atlanta. Riddle will play Langston, an Atlanta native whose DJ career has stalled due to his lack of focus and get-rich schemes. Salahuddin portrays Moose, a new Atlanta resident and perennial backup singer who dreams of the spotlight but who also has his foot in his mouth.
Saturday Night Live alum Maya Rudolph will appear as Moose’s demanding boss, Shirle, an R&B diva whose heyday was in the 90s. Jaden Smith (The Karate Kid) will play Curtis, Langston’s rowdy neighbor. Described as a “New Atlanta” teenager, Curtis has unpredictable interests and suspicious income.
Andrew Singer of Michaels’ Broadway Video will exec produce, along with Michaels and director Tim Story (Ride Along), who helmed the pilot. Jeff Field, Doug Griffin and Anna Dokoza will serve as producers.
Michaels also produces FXX’s Man Seeking Woman, giving him two scripted shows on cable in addition to his duties as SNL executive producer.
For HBO, Brothers in Atlanta marks its third comedy series order this month.
