At 51, Stunning Monica Bellucci Is The New “Bond Woman” In Upcoming ‘Spectre,’ By Steven Brittingham, Highlight Hollywood News
When Italian actress Monica Bellucci was first approached by Director Sam Mendes in hopes of her becoming a key addition to the highly anticipated James Bond movie ‘Spectre’, she was beyond surprised and assumed she might be replacing Dame Judi Dench in the role of M. After portraying the head of MI6 in seven Bond films with both Pierce Bronsan and Daniel Craig as dashing secret British agent 007, the strong willed M met a grisly fate in ‘Skyfall’ (2012) at the demented hands of Raoul Silva (Javier Garden). Alas, that was not the role the director had in mind. In the 24th Bond film ‘Spectre’ the Italian beauty will instead be the oldest Bond love interest in franchise history at 50. Now 51, Bellucci is four years older than Craig and surpasses Honor Blackman who portrayed Pussy Galore in ‘Goldfinger’ at 39 all the way back in 1969. Just don’t label her a “Bond Girl”. She prefers another phrase, “I’m not a Bond girl, I’m a Bond woman.”
Bellucci has high praise for director Mendes for making the decision to give ladies man Bond a mature love interest. “That’s why I think that Sam Mendes, in choosing me, an adult woman, created a big revolution,” Bellucci marvels. Perhaps this is no exaggeration on her part, for Hoywood is certainly hearing more and more from disgruntled veteran actresses who are consistently being overlooked for meaningful roles – all due to their age. “I told Sam he would be a hero for casting me in Spectre,” she says.
“It’s very difficult for can actress to find really deep, beautiful characters to play,” she pointed out. “But I’m proud to be a Bond lady, because actually, Bond is the most amazing man. You know why?” Bellucci asks. “Because he doesn’t exist.”
When Bond returns on November 6 it will be Craig’s fourth appearance as 007. ‘Spectre’ is on it’s way to be the most expensive film in the history of the enormously popular franchise. Bellucci’s character remains mysterious. An Italian widow who is facing danger. Will Bond save her from harms way? One thing is for certain, the stunning Bellucci will no doubt leave Craig’s Bond shaken, not stirred.
