Imossi, Pyle, Giarrizzo, Lee, Kim, Tsang, Muzychenko, Bavero Win Charcoal / Ink / Pencil Category In American Art Awards

a series of articles expanding into October, Highlight Hollywood is showcasing the 1st to 6th Place winning images of the 2015 AMERICAN ART AWARDS, one category at a time. This year the online contest, juried by the 25 Best Galleries In The Nation, had submissions from 35 countries including Aruba, Australia, Austria, Canada, China, Croatia, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Spain,South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Thailand, UK, United Arab Emirates and USA.

I interviewed president of, Thom Bierdz (actor, author and painter of the BLUE X paintings), and asked which artists this year won the CHARCOAL / INK / PENCIL – HUMAN FIGURE category.AAA154.9
Bierdz explained, “Melissa Imossi’s ‘Reclining Nude’ not only received the most gallery votes in this category, it received more gallery votes for any one piece in any one category, awarding her Best Of Show. We had a three way tie for 5th Place, and these winning images are all surreal images in an other worldly way. In fact, probably the only other way to see a grouping like this, with renaissance nudes, disrobing six-pack model, crowned urchins, masked floating heads and grenades between crotches, is in a dream sequence.”

—————————————————BIO on BEST OF SHOW winner and 1st Place winner, MELISSA IMOSSI:

Melissa Imossi is an award-winning contemporary realist artist.  She was born on Long island, NY where she acquired a passion for the natural world and the desire to capture the essence of that beauty through art. She is known for her close-up studies of nature, where she examines the graphic quality of a single subject, emphasizing symmetry, repetition and rhythm.  By focusing on the flow of light on these forms, she seems to direct the viewers into the painting itself, transporting them into another world.
Melissa’s unique style has been honed through years of study and discipline.  After taking classes at the Art Students League in NYC, Melissa realized that she wanted to focus on art full-time and traveled to Florence, Italy where she studied Old Master techniques at the prestigious Angel Academy.  In 2005, after only 2 years at the Academy, Melissa won “First Place” in The Artist Magazine’s student competition.  In 2006, she was a “Finalist” in the Artist Magazine Annual Competition, competing against 10,000 entries.  She continued to hone her skills and develop her style at two other studios in Florence before returning to the Northeast.
While back in the States in 2010, she won an “Award of Merit” from Joan Young, curator of the Guggenheim Museum.  Most recently, she won a “Williams Prize for Drawing Award” and a “Bob Kadio Award” at the “Academic Artists Association 64th Annual National Exhibit”.  Melissa continues to have successful exhibitions along the Northeast and she also works on commission for clients who have subjects that have special meanings to them.  Melissa recently moved to Madison, CT, with her artist husband, Iacopo Pasquinelli, and their daughter Bianca.AAA154.12
