In a series of articles expanding through October, we will reveal, in daily features, the 1st to 6th Place winning images with artists info, one category at a time.
Please check in daily for brilliant paintings, photography, digital images and sculpture in genres from portrait to floral to impressionism, realism, landscape, innovative, cubism, self-portrait, etc.
This year the online contest had submissions from 35 countries including Aruba,Australia, Austria, Canada, China, Croatia, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Spain,South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Thailand, UK, United Arab Emirates and USA.22AAA15.20I interviewed president of, Thom Bierdz (The Young & The Restless and painter of the BLUE X paintings) and asked which artists this year won the IMPRESSIONISM LANDSCAPE category. Bierdz explained, “This, and Abstract, are our most entered categories. Our 25 gallery judges see fantastic art from around the globe, and so many wonderful pieces get a lot of votes but still not enough to place 1st to 6th. We ask the 25 galleries to score each piece up to 3 points, and that low scoring system results in many ties. Highest scores this year went to Brian Pier and Linda Wilder, and we congratulate those outstanding works, and all the artists who won awards in this extremely competitive category.”

Born in Wisconsin in 1953, Pier is primarily self taught but strongly influenced by many of the 19th and early 20th century masters.  Studying and painting every day, he works in oil preferring a limited palette. Pier’s passion is painting plein aire and he continually finds drama in the landscapes and people that he paints, focusing on the changing light and the way that it plays on the surrounding nature.
Pier has exhibited in Manhattan, New York, and has been featured in many exhibits in the South East region of Wisconsin. Additionally, in 2013, he was invited to Florence, Italy, where he was represented internationally. Pier’s works are held in collections throughout the United States and abroad and currently exhibited at Champeau Gallery, Sister Bay and Northern Lights Gallery, Racine, WI.
In May of 2015, Pier relocated to Egg Harbor, in Door County, WI, and opened Whispering Pines Studio and Gallery.
