The Carney Awards Show pays tribute to Outstanding Achievement in the Character Acting field, and on Sunday, Nov. 1, red carpet arrives begin at 4:30, will last an hour, by 6 p.m. for the next hour, the Awards presentation. 

Actors Bob Balaban, Michael Ealy, Bruce McGill, David Paymer and CCH Pounder have been named the recipients of the 1st annual Carney Awards. 


The Carney Awards is the first award show of its kind to recognize outstanding achievement in character acting and were named in honor of the late, great Oscar and seven time Emmy winning actor Art Carney. 




Recipients:  Bob Balaban, Michael Ealy, Bruce McGill, David Paymer and CCH Pounder.


Presenters:  Anthony Anderson, Kellita Smith and Fred Willard.


Special Invited Guests: Scott Alexander, Bob Clendenin, Michael Ealy, Leslie Easterbrook, Michael Fairman, Max Gail, Spencer Garrett, Dana Gourrier, Richard Herd, Rebecca Holden, Alex Meneses, Erin Murphy, John Pyper-Ferguson, Mindy Sterling, Jay Thomas, and Dan Wilcox.




The date of the Carney Awards coincides with the 60th Anniversary of the premiere of the television show The Honeymooners.  And to mark that occasion, Art Carney’s trademark Ed Norton hat will be on display for the very first time.


The Carney Awards were created by the actor’s son, Brian Carney (actor/voice over artist best known as ‘the gecko’s boss’ in the Geico commercials) and brothers Jim and David Katz.  Jim is an Emmy Award winning producer and David is the CEO of the Elvis Duran Group.  Entertainment for the evening will be provided by singer Andra Day.  Earlier this year, Ms. Day released her single “Rise UP” and most recently she’s opening for Lenny Kravitz on his current tour.

Bob Balaban:
Bob Balaban

Bob Balaban is an actor, author, producer and director.  Audiences will recognize him from such films as “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “Gosford Park” for which he won a SAG Award, “Waiting for Guffman” and all of Christopher Guests’ improvised comedies.  His television credits include HBO’s “Recount,” CBS’s “The Good Wife,” and NBC’s “Seinfeld,” where he had a recurring role as Russell Dalrymple, president of NBC.  In addition, Balaban was once of the producers nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture for “Gosford Park.”

Michael Ealy:

Michael Ealy is perhaps best known for his roles in the films “Barbershop” and its sequel “Barbershop 2,” “Back in Business,” “2 Fast 2 Furious,” “Their Eyes were Watching God,” “For Colored Girls,” “Think Like a Man,” “About Last Night” and “Think Like a Man Too.”  In addition, Ealy starred as Dorian the android in the Fox Sci-Fi police drama “Almost Human.”  Michael was recently seen in the feature film thriller “The Perfect Guy” and in 2016, he co-stars in the new season of the ABC crime series “Secrets and Lies.”

Bruce McGill:

Bruce McGill

Bruce McGill is perhaps best known for his role as Jack Dalton on the TV series “MacGyver” and as Daniel Simpson “D-Day” in National Lampoon’s “Animal House.”  McGill is a favorite of Director Michael Mann, having worked with him on “The Insider,” “Ali” and “Collateral.”  McGill currently portrays veteran Boston police homicide detective Vince Korsak on the TNT crime drama “Rizzoli & Isles.”

David Paymer:

David Paymer

David Paymer was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the movie “The Saturday Night.”  To date, he has appeared in over 90 films including “Mr. Saturday Night,” “Quiz Show,” “Searching for Bobby Fischer,” “City Slickers,” “State and Main,” “Payback,” “Get Shorty,” “Carpool,” “The American President” and “Oceans Thirteen.”  He also played a mob boss in the TV series “Line of Fire.”

CCH Pounder:

CCH Pounder

CCH Pounder is a four time Emmy nominated actress for her roles on “ER,” “The X-Files,” “The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency” and for her portrayal as Detective Claudette Wyms in the FX police drama “The Shield.”  Most recently, she had recurring roles in the TV series “Warehouse 13″ and “Sons of Anarchy.”  Her films include “Home Again,” “Prizzi’s Honor,” “Postcards From the Edge” and James Camerons’s “Avataar.”  Currently, Pounder plays medical examiner, Dr. Loretta Wade, on “NCIS:  New Orleans.”
