Prichard Art Gallery Named Best Gallery Or Museum In Idaho, 2016, Highlight Hollywood EXCLUSIVE News

Highlight Hollywood supports all venues of the entertainment industry, from politics to sports to cinema to fine arts. This year, we again have the exclusive rights to introduce our readers to the 25 Best Museums And Galleries In America, as designated by the American Art Awards. The AAA board, headed by president Thom Bierdz, chooses only one museum or gallery per state per year. Their selections are based on years established, industry reputation, location, size, socially relevant exhibits, motivational and educational programs, represented artists as well as artist, client and visitor references.

Bierdz explains, “In the past, American Art Awards has honored well over a hundred museums and galleries. We study thousands each year. As for Idaho, the Prichard Art Gallery is a leader in the presentation of contemporary visual arts within the Northwest and we think the premier venue for the state of Idaho. They are a critically engaged, forward thinking arts space with programs to encourage experimentation and support engaging new works created by emerging as well as established artists. We at American Art Awards like their thinking, their freedom-oriented mission, their spaces, their work ethic and their reputation – and name Prichard Art Gallery the Best Gallery In Idaho, 2016, as well as one of our 25 Best Galleries Or Museums In America, 2016.”

The gallery opened in its current location in the fall of 1986 and is the result of an extensive remodeling project. University of Idaho Associate Professor of Architecture, William Bowler, designed the interior space, and students of the Department of Architecture carried out the renovation during the summer as a design build class. The galleries were renovated in 2005 and the Children’s Studio has been renovated and expanded from 2012-2015. Work on collections storage spaces and additional studio facilities are ongoing.
The university supports basic facilities fees as well as two full-time and one part-time staff position. Funding for exhibition programming and additional personnel is generated through grants, individual and corporate memberships, student fees, and special events sponsored by the Prichard Art Gallery Advisory Board.
