Jon Stewart’s HBO project has been revealed to be an animated parody of a cable news network, HBO boss Casey Bloys revealed at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour Saturday. Mr. Bloys described the project as “an Onion-like portal” that will consist of video and text. And the animation allows for quick turnaround.
“It allows him to comment real-time on what’s happening during the day’s news events,” Bloys revealed. “The animation allows him to respond to things very quickly.”
As previously announced, Stewart will work with the cloud graphics company OTOY Inc. to produce timely short-form digital content, which will be refreshed on HBO NOW multiple times throughout the day.
Bloys didn’t confirm a specific premiere date for the still untitled project, but hinted September or October could be potential launch windows.
