CBS’s “The Young and the Restless” cast and crew will be rocked on Monday when they arrive to find out that Ms. Kay Alden, Bill Bell’s protégé has been fired by Sony and CBS, as Sally Sussman wanted to hire her “college age son” to replace one of Daytime TV’s most iconic and talented scribes. “Steve [Kent] and Sony are hoping it’ll go under the radar,” an executive who works at Sony Studios tells Highlight Hollywood. “Sally [Sussman] has been intimidated by Kay since she brought her on board. It was an attempt to keep the ‘Classic Y&R’ fans happy, but Sally has no desire or ability to go in that direction and all of Ms. Alden’s good work and dedication to Bill Bell’s soap fell on deaf ears.”
“The Young and the Restless” has been on shaky ground ever since they pushed the last Bell out of power at the top rated soap. They brought on Jill Farren Phelps to destroy the morale and she did a very good job of it. Those who thought Sally Sussman was the answer obviously didn’t count on her pushing Kay Alden out. Ms. Alden was Bill Bell’s most trusted and devoted soldier for years at the soap that Bill and Lee Bell created.A source close to Les Moonves tells Highlight Hollywood, “It’s sad. It’s as if the Daytime TV division is being run like the White House. All of these people seem to be in disarray and playing ‘Big Brother,’ and not playing with a full-deck. Ms. Alden is devastated, but she expected her time would end soon, since Sally [Sussman] was obviously intimidated by her. Now the nepotism game begins. Sadly the Sussman(s) are not the Bells. Not by a country mile.
A spokesman for “The Young and the Restless” declined to comment. Sony Pictures also had no comment.
