Weinstein Company’s ‘The Current War’ Officially Removed From November Release At The Box Office

The embattled Weinstein Co. has officially shoved off the November release of The Current War.  Polarid, from Dimenson Films, has also been pulled from the calendar. The movie had been set to open in theaters Nov. 22.

Directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, The Current War is a historical drama starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Thomas Edison and Michael Shannon as George Westinghouse. It was to have opened in select theaters on Nov. 24, but now won’t open until next year.

Insiders say it would have been impossible to release The Current War amid the scandal erupting over numerous allegations of sexual harassment, rape and assault on the part of former TWC co-chairman Harvey Weinstein.

Harvey Weinstein might be gone, the he’s left TWC’s fate in doubt as numerous filmmakers look to take their projects elsewhere and companies doing business with TWC bolt.

In addition to the delayed release of Current War, Apple scrapped plans for a four-show deal with TWC that included scripted miniseries about Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Prince and Frank Sinatra.
