Third Firefighter Killed While Responding To No. Calif.’s #CarrFire

The Cal Fire worker who died in a traffic accident while assigned to the Carr Fire was identified as Andrew Brake, 40. He died in a single-car accident on his way to work on the fire as a heavy equipment mechanic. He was a six-year Cal Fire veteran. Gov. Jerry Brown has ordered flags at the Capitol to be lowered to half staff. 
 A Cal Fire mechanic was killed in a traffic accident while helping combat the Carr Fire, becoming the third person to die in the two-week fight to quell the blaze that has ravaged the area around Redding.

The heavy equipment mechanic from the Cal Fire Butte unit died in a crash on Highway 99 south of Los Molinos in Tehama County, officials said. He has not been identified pending notification of his family.



Two firefighters died in the early days of the fire as flames roared through Redding.
