HOLMBY HILLS, LOS ANGELES — Federal agents and Los Angeles police seized hundreds, possibly thousands, of firearms after executing a search warrant at a home in the Holmby Hills neighborhood.
ATF agents were seen in the area of Sunset Boulevard and Beverly Glen sorting through and documenting the collection of weapons.
Many of them appeared to be rifles.The ATF didn’t provide details, but said the operation was part of an ongoing investigation with the Los Angeles Police Department.
Holmby Hills is a small, wealthy neighborhood in the hills northeast of UCLA that is perhaps best known as the home of the Playboy Mansion and the Spelling Mansion.
Update 3:33PM PT:Acting on a tip about the illegal selling and manufacturing of firearms, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives raided an upscale home in the 100 block of North Beverly Glen Boulevard, said LAPD Officer Lizeth Lomeli. The raid began shortly before 5 a.m. Wednesday, and by 3 p.m., authorities were still rounding up weapons.
“So far over a 1,000 firearms have been recovered,” Lomeli said.
Lomeli said the investigation was ongoing and could not confirm if any arrests had been made. The neighborhood is dotted with mansions, and the massive police presence is an unusual sight in the community.
KTLA footage from hovering helicopters showed a driveway lined with handguns and high-powered rifles.
