Universal Pictures And ‘Downton Abbey’ Creators Talking About A Film Sequel

Following a hugely successful six-season run, PBS’s Downton Abbey finally made its way to the big screen this September with a feature-length movie of the same name.


And despite some critics’ unfair complaints, overall fans were excited to see what the Crawleys had been up to since we last saw them and the film turned out to be a box office success.  And the film was a box office hit.

Which is why fans might be pleased to know that conversations about the possibility of a sequel.

Producer Gareth Neame sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss a new cinematic project afor the ITV show, and he confirmed that the wheels are in motion.

“We’re working on what the story is, and when we might be able to make it. But it’s the same as the first time around: We have to try to get everyone back together again. And that was very challenging,” he explained.


The film adaptation featured the return of many favorite original characters and cast, including Laura Carmichael as Lady Edith Crawley, Joanne Froggatt as Anna Bates, Hugh Bonneville as Robert Crawley, Allen Leech as Tom Branson, Elizabeth McGovern as Cora Crawley and Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary Crawley.
