BIO OF 1ST PLACE WINNER XIAOWEI ZHAO: Born in 1979, lives and works in Beijing, China. “My art work concerns the physical and mental status of lives. Relying on realism, and incorporated with contemporaneity, modern life circumstances were reflected, with a focus on relationship between human and human, human and nature, inheritances and conflicts of contemporary and tradition, and interpretation of beauty associated with present-day society. Purist painting expressions were aspired. “Chinese classical and ethnic culture is explored in my work. Elements of Chinese traditional ethnic were placed in a modern environment. Culture and art from other ethnics were also borrowed to obtain a better interpretation of inheritances and conflicts. Young lady figures within a contemporary natural and humanistic environment, serve as a metaphor of current era and present surroundings, reflecting metropolitan cultural environments and convey visual artistic conceptions.”
