The midseason finale of “The Walking Dead” Season 10 left fan-favorite character Carol and a group of her Alexandria allies at the mercy of the Whisperers.

This weekend, the popular AMC series returns to resolve the cliffhanger ending. AMC has released the opening sequence to this weekend’s midseason premiere, continuing to build tension for Carol and her friends. Trapped in a tunnel full of ravenous zombies as the Whisperer leader Alpha looked on, things appear more grim for Carol than ever.

As Carol and her allies confront the herd of walkers with only the light of their flashlights, Alpha triumphantly gloats outside and informs her guards to ensure none of the rival faction emerges from the tunnel alive.  Season 10 has largely revolved around the conflict between the Whisperers and other factions in the Alexandria area coming to a full boil, complete with moles, sabotage and epic betrayals. With Carol trapped by the Whisperers, Alexandria may have lost its biggest leader in the coming Whisperer War.
