Massive Four Alarm Warehouse-Fire On San Francisco’s Iconic Pier 45 At Fisherman’s Wharf

Firefighters are working to contain a fire that erupted early Saturday morning at a warehouse on Pier 45 at Fisherman’s Wharf, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.

The fire began at a warehouse sometime before 4:40 a.m. at the pier, located at Taylor and Jones streets, and sent thick plumes of smoke into the air. The situation “evolved rapidly” from a one-alarm fire to four alarms, Lt. Jonathan Baxter told KGO in an interview.

Firefighters worked to keep the flames from the historic SS Jeremiah O’Brien Liberty ship, which was threatened by the fire, Baxter said.

The ship was successfully saved, he confirmed. No other buildings are currently being threatened by the flames.

Occupants of Pier 45 were evacuated by firefighters and there were no reported injuries in the fire. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Baxter said, and investigators will be looking into how the fire was ignited.

Residents are asked to avoid the area as firefighters and emergency personnel remain on the scene.
