‘Desus & Mero’ Renewed for Season 3 at Showtime

Desus & Mero will return in 2021 at Showtime.

The ViacomCBS-owned premium cable network has renewed the late night talk show for a third season. The news comes as the twice-a-week series hosted by Desus Nice and The Kid Mero will wrap up its sophomore run in October.

“All of us at Showtime are so proud to have Desus & Mero as our signature late night series,” said Showtime Entertainment president Gary Levine. “They are our very own ‘Bronx Bombers’ who knock it out of the park every episode, with their singular blend of hilarity, authenticity and relevancy.”

Expanded to Sundays and Thursdays in season two, the series is currently shot remotely from the homes of its co-hosts, who offer their take on everything from politics to pop culture, sports and music. Recent guests have included Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, Dr. Anthony Fauci, David Letterman and Gabrielle Union. (No indication was made about whether the series will return to the studio in season three.)

Desus & Mero is Showtime’s first-ever late night talk show. Nice (Daniel Baker) and The Kid Mero (Joel Martinez) brought the series to Showtime in 2018 after two years hosting a daily incarnation on Viceland. Before that, they hosted a web series for Complex TV and were featured regularly on The Guy Code, which ran on fellow ViacomCBS brand MTV. The duo also hosts the Bodega Boys podcast.

Jax Media produces Desus & Mero for Showtime. The duo executive produce alongside Lilly Burns, Tony Hernandez and Victor Lopez.

The renewal arrives shortly after HBO extended John Oliver’s show through 2023. Desus & Mero is part of a late night landscape that also features shows hosted by ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel (whose deal expires in 2022); CBS’ Stephen Colbert (2023) and James Corden (2022); HBO’s Bill Maher (2020); NBC’s Jimmy Fallon (2021), Seth Meyers (2021) and Lilly Singh (2021); TBS’ Samantha Bee (2022) and Conan O’Brien (2022); and Comedy Central’s Trevor Noah (2022).
